Agriculture Technician – Job Announcement
Introduction
The Fairbanks Soil & Water Conservation District (FSWCD) is an outreach 
and technical assistance organization whose mission is to serve its 
cooperators, private landowners, and all citizens of the district by 
promoting wise development and conservation of natural resources. The 
person who is selected for this position will be trained under the 
Natural Resources Specialist for 6 months and then will be expected to 
transition into management of FSWCD’s agricultural and soils programs. 
These programs include the Soil Testing Program, a research study 
“Effects of Crop Rotation on Soil Quality for Vegetable Production in 
Interior Alaska”, an agricultural demonstration “Interior Alaska Hay 
Field Renovation Project” and other soils/ag projects. 

Duties & Responsibilities

1.      Soil sampling, processing, and writing fertilizer 
recommendations 
2.      Delineate research plots, collect soil quality data, seed crops, 
and complete other work associated with agricultural research studies
3.      Grant management including writing reports, meeting deadlines, 
establishing timelines and budgets, and organization of multiple 
projects simultaneously
4.      Outreach to landowners, farmers, and professionals in the 
natural resource field
5.      Work collaboratively with other FSWCD staff to complete projects
6.      Riparian restoration work
7.      Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

1.      Background in natural resources management, especially soils and 
agriculture
2.      Bachelor’s degree in natural resources or related field
3.      Organizational skills and project management experience
4.      Ability to communicate well orally and in writing
5.      Ability to work independently, as a team player, and to 
supervise seasonal staff
6.      Valid driver’s license and ability to pass a federal background 
check

Wage & Benefits
This full time, permanent position will begin in March 2017. The rate of 
pay will be $18-20 DOE. Benefits include holiday and leave pay after an 
initial probationary period.
