The Duhaime Lab (http://www-personal.umich.edu/~duhaimem) at the University of
Michigan in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology is seeking a
full-time
bioinformatician. The lab works with large-scale viral and microbial omics
datasets to
study interactions of microbes and their viruses across organizational scales
and their
roles in ecosystem function. Also, we have a lot of fun. The primary tasks of
the
bioinformatician will include data analysis, such as metagenomic assembly,
binning,
annotation, mapping and comparisons of metatranscriptomes; development and
maintenance of bioinformatics pipelines; development and maintenance of
databases for
microbiome/virome omics data. Responsibilities will also include the training
of
postdoctoral researchers, staff, graduate and undergraduate students in high-
performance computing, programming, and bioinformatics applications. Qualified
candidates will hold a bachelor’s degree in bioinformatics, data science,
computer science,
biology, or a related field with a required 2-3 years of computer/research
experience.
Experience with Linux command line, scripting languages (Perl, Python, R and
Bash), graph
databases (Neo4j) or traditional relational databases (SQL), web development
languages
and proper bioinformatic/software documentation is needed. Applicant evaluation
will
include code/code documentation review. A master’s degree with 2-4 years of
computer/research experience highly preferred. Please contact Melissa Duhaime
[email protected] for inquiries. If interested in the position, please include
