PROJECT MANAGER POSITION OVERVIEW

The Nursery Manager is responsible for managing the daily operations of the
Gila Native Plant Nursery. The position requires the management of
employees, maintenance of facilities, and horticultural responsibilities.
The Nursery Manager will ensure the availability of container stock for
numerous ecological restoration projects and a small retail inventory.

The position requires a highly-organized and motivated individual, with
demonstrated experience in and knowledge of southwestern botany and
propagation techniques. Successful applicants must have several years of
proven successful project management experience, experience leading a team
and volunteer efforts, and a strong background in horticulture. The GWP
Nursery Manager will also provide guidance in the development of active
restoration projects with re-vegetation components, and helping to guide the
Gila Native Plant Nursery into long-term sustainability through the
implementation of our nursery business plan.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

• Producing restoration-quality plant materials for numerous restoration
projects
• Propagating plants species native to southeastern Arizona
• Maintaining a greenhouse and other propagation facilities
• Managing employees and volunteers at the nursery
• Coordinating education and outreach activities in the local community
• Overseeing nursery budget and assisting with fundraising efforts
• Maintaining propagation database using FileMakerPro software
• Assisting with revegetation planning and outplanting activities
• Coordinating seed collections and curation
• Work with a broad coalition of partners to achieve organizational goals
• Participate in organizational and community meetings and planning
• Reporting nursery project accomplishments to funders
• Assisting with organizational functions and projects as needed

IDEAL CANDIDATE
• Bachelor’s Degree in Horticulture, Biology, Natural Resources, or related
field
• 3-4 years experience in controlled environment agriculture, management
experience
• Grant-writing and/or fundraising experience
• Proficient at plant identification of species in southeastern Arizona
• General computer skills including Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and
database management
• Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to interact with a wide variety
of constituents
• Experience in conservation or other environmental non-profit and/or
business operations highly desirable.
• Demonstrated experience in community development and partnership
cultivation, with experience in establishing organizational relationships
that encourage diversity and inclusivity.

Additionally, applicants must have:

• A willingness and commitment to support the mission of the Gila Watershed
Partnership and the goals and objectives of GWP’s vision.
• A valid state driver’s license and ability to pass a standard background check
• Physically fit enough to work on your feet and lift/carry up to 50 pounds
• Supervisory experience of project contractors; able to provide oversight
and daily management of their related activities.
• An ability to work well under pressure and effectively handle sensitive
situations and relationships.
• An ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, and
travel as required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
• Moderate to high physical effort is required
• Duties involve substantial outdoor work and seasonal extreme temperatures

COMPENSATION
• $30,000 - $35,000 depending on experience
• Paid Time Off, Health Insurance, and Cell Phone Reimbursement
