Two Project Assistant positions are available at the Cary Institute of
Ecosystem Studies.  Both pertain to The Tick Project (www.tickproject.org),
which is developing and testing a new approach to reducing the incidence of
tick-borne disease in residential neighborhoods.

Position 1 (17007-I) assists the Human Subjects Research Specialist with
community relations.  This Project Assistant will assist with research that
focuses on human exposure to ticks and tick-borne pathogens.  Duties will
include recruiting and interacting with study participants from residential
neighborhoods, addressing questions and concerns of study participants,
collecting information on behaviors relevant to human exposure to tick-
borne disease, and interacting with regional and national health agencies
to collect and maintain epidemiological data. Experience in medical
anthropology or sociology, or epidemiology, and a Bachelors degree, are
required.  

Position 2 (17008-I) assists the Human Subject Research Specialist and is
responsible for strict compliance of tick-control activities and
methodologies.  This Project Assistant will be the primary liaison between
the Cary Institute’s Tick Project scientific personnel and the management
and employees of the pest control company contracted to deploy the
experimental tick control activities.  The Project Assistant will maintain
quality control of the preparation, delivery, and application of tick-
control interventions, maintain the double-blind study design, accompany
pest control personnel during their visits to study neighborhoods, address
questions and concerns of residents whose properties are being treated, and
maintain meticulous records of all interactions between pest control
personnel, Tick Project personnel, and study participants.  Experience in
medical anthropology or sociology, or epidemiology, and a Bachelors degree,
are required.

For both positions, employment is to begin between March 1 and March 15,
with an end date of approximately September 30, 2017.  Jobs are full time,
35 hours/week.  Wage is commensurate with education and experience.  The
final candidate will be required to complete a post-offer, pre-employment
driving background check successfully. On-site or nearby housing is
available.  All candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S.
