Job: Field plant ecologist

Tall Timbers Research Station and Land Conservancy, Fire Ecology Program

The Fire Ecology Program of Tall Timbers Research Station and Land Conservancy 
(Tallahassee, Florida) is seeking a field plant ecologist for a two-year 
grant-funded position.  The purpose of the project is to determine the effects 
of time since restoration of pine savanna on plant species composition, soil 
characteristics, and associated ecosystem services.

Qualifications: (1) Master's degree completed in biology, forestry, wildlife, 
natural resources, or related field preferred, Bachelor's degree completed in 
similar fields considered, (2) plant identification skills and eagerness to 
learn a large number of new plants, (2) confidence in data management and 
analysis using basic statistics, (3) ability and desire to independently write 
manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication under guidance of the supervisor, (4) 
experience with GIS and GPS preferred, (5) willing to work full days in harsh 
(hot, humid, buggy) outdoor conditions in Florida and Georgia, (6) strong 
organizational skills and confidence in supervising interns.

Duties under supervision of PIs: (1) Identify all vascular plant species within 
upland plots in northern Florida and southern Georgia, (2) sample and assist 
with identification of bee species as part of a pollinator census, (3) collect 
and process soil samples, (4) measure forest stand characteristics, (5) use GIS 
and GPS to identify and navigate to plot locations, (6) manage and analyze 
data, (7) take a lead role in preparing manuscripts for publication.

Salary and benefits: $32,000 per year with health insurance and retirement 
payments.
