The California Botanical Society has extended the abstract submission deadline for its 26th Graduate Student Symposium. Abstracts for posters or talks about research at any stage by students at any level are now due February 24th 2017.

Students of all levels engaged in a project relating to any aspect of plant science in or relevant to western North America are encouraged to apply, including undergraduates. Topics may include bioinformatics, conservation, ecology, floristics, genetics, morphology, physiology, or systematics. Abstracts for completed, in-progress, or proposed research will be accepted, and presentations may take the form of talks or posters. Prizes will be awarded.

The symposium will be held on April 8, 2017 at Santa Barbara Botanic Garden. Additional information about student travel grants, registration, and lodging (including an opportunity for free student camping) is available at the California Botanical Society website, www.calbotsoc.org <http://www.calbotsoc.org>

The abstract submission form is available at the website.

The symposium will be immediately followed by the California Botanical Society annual banquet and a keynote address by Steve Junak on the botanical history of southern California’s Channel Islands. Before his recent retirement, Steve was the Herbarium Curator at the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden and has co-authored several books on the Channel Islands.

Two field trips will be offered in conjunction the symposium and annual meeting. On Friday, April 7 (weather permitting), Steve Junak will be leading a trip to Santa Cruz Island, departing at 9:00am from Ventura Harbor. On Sunday, April 9, Larry Ballard and Matt Guilliams will be leading a trip to Figueroa Mountain. We are hoping for a great floral display after the wet winter. Registration is available at the California Botanical Society website.

Any questions can be directed to Adam Schneider ([email protected] <mailto:[email protected]>) and Danielle Black ([email protected] <mailto:[email protected]>), symposium co-chairs.

We hope to see you there!
