Scientific Technical Officer (STO) - EAFM – FishKOSM Temporary specified 
purpose contract for a maximum duration of 5 years

The Scientific and Technical Officer (STO) will work closely with the 
Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries Management Principal Investigator on 
delivering analysis and information on Fisheries ecosystems. They will 
generate knowledge on multi species interactions, maximum sustainable 
yields (MSY) management targets, mixed fisheries and the use of marine 
biological resources. They will assist in developing prediction and 
modelling tools that support an integrated approach in management and 
decision making in implementing an ecosystems approach to fisheries. 
This will help provide advice to national and international clients, 
principally DAFM, and the European Commission. The main tasks will be:

Developing information on predator prey interactions from data and 
literature reviews

Developing fishing mortality and stock biomass indicators from stock 
assessments and other sources, and developing proxies for such 
indicators where the data do not support analytical assessments.

Developing MSY based reference levels and management targets for these 
indicators and their use in further modelling of fish populations under 
this type of management. This will involve working closely with the 
project modelling groups developing the Management Strategy Evaluation 
models.

Working with University partners on the Integrated Ecosystem Analyses 
and the ecosystem modelling in relation to MSY.

Working with the project coordinator to develop a synthesis of the 
project work and prepare for publication.

The role will involve integrating the results across the project and 
producing syntheses of the findings for reporting and publication. This

Duration of contact:

The maximum duration of this temporary specified purpose contract of 
employment will be five  years. The successful candidate will be on 
probation for the first six months of this contract.
