I am seeking a PhD student for this summer/fall to begin work investigating
the mechanisms of grass survival during extended drought. Recent research
focused on drought-induced mortality of plants has focused on woody species
and measurements have been made primarily on aboveground tissue. Perennial
grasses, however, can resprout from belowground bud banks that can survive
extreme conditions during drought, but an explanation for how these tissues
can survive drought is unknown. I am looking for a student with a masters
degree in plant ecophysiology, or related subject, and strong quantitative
skills to work on this project and develop techniques to measure
physiological processes on belowground plant tissue. If you are interested
in this PhD opportunity, please send your CV and a brief statement of your
background and interest to me at [email protected].
