Hjort Summer School 2017
Bridging Methods in Marine Science: From Lab to Models
(http://filamo.b.uib.no/hjortschool2017/)

11. – 16. August 2017
Espegrend Biological Station, Bergen, Norway
Application deadline: 1. June

The ability to integrate and communicate between laboratory experiments and
numerical modelling is an increasingly important skill to collaborate and
work successfully within the interdisciplinary field of marine science. The
2017 Hjort Summer School will train the next generation of marine scientists
in linking and communicating across laboratory- and numerical modelling
approaches.

Lecturers & Instructors:
Dag L. Aksnes, University of Bergen, Norway
Hans G. Dam, University of Connecticut, USA
Aditee Mitra, Swanea University, UK
Diane Stoecker, University of Maryland, USA
Camilla Svensen, University of Tromsø, Norway
Selina Våge, University of Bergen, Norway

The Program
To achieve a better understanding of the connectivity of lab and modelling
work, the 2017 Hjort Summer School has a strong focus on hands-on work.
Accompanied by lectures, students will conduct lab experiments and link them
to modelling experiences using examples highly relevant to the changing
marine environment of today such as mixotrophy, zooplankton fecal pellet
production and carbon export.
Students are also asked to prepare a poster-presentation of their own
research. Upon completion, they receive a course diploma with a recommended
3 ECTS.

Participants, Costs & How to apply
The course is aimed at earlier career scientists and students within the
field of marine sciences.
All course costs (accommodation & food) are covered; however travels will
have to be paid by the student. A limited number of travel grants are
available (for details see application form).
To apply, please fill in the application form, upload a short CV and a
letter from your supervisor in the Online application form
(https://skjemaker.app.uib.no/view.php?id=3186847).
