CA State Parks Seasonal Natural Resource Assistant Needed Scientific Aid (Botany / Invasive Plants / Natural Resources) Snr. Maintenance Aide (Invasive Plants / Natural Resources) CA State Parks is hiring one seasonal (temporary) SCIENTIFIC AID ($12.11 - $14.36/hour) or a SENIOR MAINTENANCE AIDE - $11.87/hour - from APRIL 3rd – SEPT 29th at Empire Mine State Historic Park (SHP) in Grass Valley, CA. The Scientific Aid will assist in invasive plant control and botanical surveys at Empire Mine State Historic Park, Malakoff Diggins State Historic Park, and the South Yuba River State Park. The Scientific Aid is an entry-level seasonal position involved in natural resource management of California State Parks. This job includes the ability to perform vegetation surveys and field work to manage State Park resources, with an emphasis on invasive plants. Other duties include GIS mapping, sensitive plant surveys, trail inspections, other natural resource surveys, and office work including creating reports, maps, and entering information into databases. Also may work with school groups and volunteers. Experience and interest in botany, grounds and landscape maintenance, weed-abatement, forestry, and knowledge of California native plants and exotic plants is desired. Employee will participate in extensive field work in steep river canyons and in thick brush including poison oak during all types of weather including 100+ degree days. The employee must be physically fit and able to walk 5-10 miles a day and be able to operate four-wheel drive vehicles. Operation of a weed-eater for many weeks is also necessary. Scientific Aid Education requirements: Equivalent to completion of two years of college with a minimum of 10 semester hours in relevant scientific course work, i.e., pest management, environmental studies, or agricultural sciences. Position is M-F, 40 hours a week. No uniform is necessary, but appropriate field clothing is required (boots, long pants, long shirts).
