PROJECT SUMMARY
Winter canola is a crop that has a number of advantages including its
use as a cover crop, forage, pollinator attractor, crop rotation,
bioenergy feedstock and grain commodity. Our lab has participated in the
National Winter Canola Variety Trials and has identified varieties that
produce the highest yields in Tennessee, however, there is little
information related to optimal fertilizer rates or planting dates for
winter canola. This project will help identify the effects of different
rates of nitrogen fertilizer or planting date on winter canola yield,
oil content, protein content and specific physiological plant processes.
This will provide farmers with additional information so that they can
make the best decisions for their agribusiness.
