USDA-ARS Northern Plain Agricultural Research Laboratory Date: 04/25/2017 Position: Biological Science Aid Series: 0404 Duration: Summer/Fall June-September Summary: The NPARL Agricultural Systems Research Unit is looking for a Biological Science Aid to work this summer in Sidney, Montana. The Biological Science Aid will assist in multiple phase of research throughout the summer months on dryland and irrigated research fields located in eastern Montana and western North Dakota. The Science Aid will have opportunity to work alongside technicians and scientists on agricultural research pertinent to the northern plain's area. Typical job duties include but not limited to: farm equipment maintenance, field sampling of soil and crop biomass, research plot survey, weeding, and analytical instrument operations. The candidate may work in the field, the laboratory, or both. Field work may be conducted on occasion under adverse weather conditions (rain or high heat). Candidate must be able to lift 40 pounds. Work schedule is generally 40 hours/weeks 8 am to 5 pm with possible long hours in the field and on the weekends. Basic Qualifications:
* High School diploma/GED equivalent and 3-6 months of experience working as a farm hand with a focus on farm equipment operation (internship and volunteering experience counts) * Some experience with biological/environmental science laboratory practices. * Applicant must be at least 18 years old. * Valid Driver's License. Preferred Qualifications: * Experience working as a farm hand or maintaining/operating farming equipment (6 months to a year) * Undergraduate course works or Bachelor's Degree in agricultural engineering, environmental science, environmental engineering, soil science, crop science, or plant physiology. * Experience working in a biological science or environmental science laboratory or related laboratory fields.
