Coastal Estuarine Research Federation (CERF), conference. Providence, RI. Nov 5-9th.
Abstracts due Monday, May 1st SPECIAL SESSION. DIVERSITY IN SCIENCE. "Inflection Point in Coastal Science: Research access for underrepresented students" A short description of the session: There is a recognized need to strengthen student participation in STEM disciplines. Scientists and educators are exploring novel ways to interest underserved and underrepresented students in marine science, engage them in project-based learning, provide early access to research experiences and enhance mentoring opportunities. We invite abstracts that cover a range of education approaches that highlight successes and challenges including: education and teaching models for building diversity in marine science; quantitative and qualitative evaluation of models; metrics to measure student success; and evaluation strategies to identify highly successful components of different training approaches. NOTE: Presenters can submit BOTH primary research abstracts AND education themed abstracts. http://www.erf.org/cerf-2017-call-for-abstracts For questions please contact one of the session conveners: Fredrika Moser, mo...@mdsg.umd.edu<mailto:mo...@mdsg.umd.edu> Carlos J.
