Postdoctoral Research Opportunity in the Orrock Lab at the University of Wisconsin-Madison
Funding is available for a postdoctoral position in the Orrock Lab in the Department of Integrative Biology at the University of Wisconsin- Madison. The successful candidate will contribute to a large-scale collaborative project to evaluate how ongoing community assembly experiments (e.g., seed sowing, competition reduction) have affected understory plant populations within longleaf pine woodlands. This work is conducted in collaboration Ellen Damschen (University of Wisconsin) and Lars Brudvig (Michigan State University), and with funding from the Strategic Environmental Research and Development Program (SERDP). As a result, candidates with skills in field ecology, plant ecology, plant- animal interactions, as well as data management and data analysis will be particularly competitive. In addition, the successful candidate will have considerable flexibility to develop a collaborative research project within areas typically studied by the lab. Topics explored in the lab include: behavioral ecology of plants and animals, predator-prey interactions and non-consumptive effects, habitat modification by invasive plants, disease ecology, and the ecology of plant-induced defenses. For additional information regarding research foci, please consult recent publications from the Orrock Lab (https://orrocklab.zoology.wisc.edu/Html/publications.html). Applicants must have relevant Ph.D. experience in ecology. Funding for salary and research expenses is available for 1 year, with a renewal possible for a second year, and with a flexible start date (preferably before December 2017). Interested applicants should send a curriculum vitae, a 1-2 page statement of research interests and a description of projects that could be conducted while working in the Orrock Lab, 2-3 relevant publications, and contact information for three references. Send materials (e-mail preferred) to: John Orrock, Department of Integrative Biology, University of Wisconsin, Madison, WI 53706, email: [email protected]. Application review will be considered starting August 1, 2017 and continue until the position is filled. Women and minorities are strongly encouraged to apply. The University of Wisconsin is an Equal Employment Opportunity employer.
