Hours/Shift/Work Schedule:  This position is a 10-month, full time 
exempt position.  Hours worked: 8:00am – 4:30pm, Monday through Friday 
with occasional evening and weekend hours.

POSITION SUMMARY

The selected candidate will be responsible for performing a combination 
of administrative, research, and teaching duties.  These duties include 
running and maintaining a research laboratory with an active research 
program, managing the class component of the SIR program, and assisting 
in administrative work of the SIR department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform

Maintain an active research laboratory, working with SIR staff to equip 
and supply the laboratory with needed equipment and supplies;
Manage consumables, budgets, and problem-solve unforeseen issues related 
to the physical laboratory.
Develop one or more research questions and active research activities 
aimed at answering these research questions;
Publish at least one scientific paper annually in a reputable scientific 
conference or journal after an initial ramp up period of no more than 
two years.
Seek out and obtain funding for research to support goal-driven or 
ongoing research efforts.
Guide and mentor twenty (20) students through the five phases of a full 
research cycle/SIR project with end result of publication in the area of 
research.
Teach students the technical skills necessary to carry out significant 
work in a laboratory.
Administrative support to the academic SIR program
Program evaluation and update
Communicate with Research Mentors external to SIR and work to develop 
new research opportunities for students.
Identify appropriate student candidates for research projects.
Participate in program reviews and development of new teaching 
methodology.
Update web-based and/or archived documentation of the program and 
procedures
Participate in evaluations of laboratories on and off campus.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A minimum of a Master’s degree in STEM or related field
3 years experience in an education/academic setting with at least 1 year 
engaged in research
Strong knowledge of laboratory safety
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Demonstrated ability to work well with a variety of individuals and 
diverse populations
Demonstrated ability to work with young people on complex, open-ended 
subjects
Ability to work independently, resolve issues, seek help when needed, 
and work on concurrent projects
Ability to travel as needed
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
The preferred qualifications for this position include:

An earned Ph.D. or Ed.D.
Demonstrated record of scholarship and research with a significant 
scholarly publication record in an area of research that can 
realistically be carried out at IMSA
Significant peer-reviewed research results within the last two years.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Work is performed in laboratory and office settings.  Exposure to health 
or safety hazards is consistent with that of professionals carrying out 
research in the area of research.  Substantial time is spent working on 
a computer.  This role requires the following physical activities: 
talking, hearing and visual acuity, sitting, walking, bending, stooping, 
finger dexterity, repetitive motions, loading, unloading and moving 
materials/boxes weighing up to 50 pounds.
