I have a place on Smith Island that I share with a small group of ecologists and like-minded people. We call ourselves the Drum Point Club. I decided it’s time for me to transfer my membership to someone new. I haven’t had a chance to get down to visit the island often enough of late. I’m looking for someone new to take my place. It’s a culturally interesting place centered in the Chesapeake Bay on the border between Maryland and Virginia. Excellent place from which to do estuarine research and/or bring small groups of college students for fieldwork. Great for kayaking, fishing, crabbing, marsh exploring, relaxing on island time. We’re a do-it-yourself kind of group, so most repairs are done by members with all of us pitching in enough $ to cover materials. If you think you might be interested, let me know and I’ll give you more info on the island and the costs of being a member. I will be at the ESA conference in Portland. If you would like to talk with me about the island house, I will be at the Human Ecology Section booth in the Exhibit Hall in the afternoons Monday, Aug 7 through Thursday, Aug 10. I’ll have photos of the place and you can ask me any questions you may have to see if it would be a good fit for you. Beth Olsen
