The Department of Environmental Studies at the University of New England invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor beginning in Fall 2018. The ideal candidate will have a primary focus area in the human dimensions of climate change. Secondary focus areas could include environmental policy and planning, renewable energy, planetary health, environmental justice, and/or theory and practice of social change. Teaching responsibilities include Introduction to Environmental Issues (a required course in the College of Arts and Sciences' Core Curriculum); Society, Population, and Environment; Environmental Policy; and upper-level Environmental Studies electives. Candidates must have a doctoral degree and be committed to interdisciplinary teaching and scholarship. The desired candidate will have demonstrated excellence in teaching and a well-defined research program amenable to mentoring of undergraduates. In addition to teaching and research, the candidate will be expected to participate in service to the Department, college and university; curriculum development; assessment of student learning; and academic advising. The candidate will join a long-established interdisciplinary department with 5 tenured faculty and 2 lecturers in the university's College of Arts and Sciences. The University of New England is located in Biddeford on the southern coast of Maine, where teaching and research opportunities abound, including within a 360-acre forest, the Saco River watershed and estuary, and with numerous community partners. UNE is located 20 minutes from Portland, one of the country's most livable cities.
