Dear Colleagues: Is there a web-based (ideally, easy to use), searchable reference one can use to find plants named after people (= botanical patronymics)?
Background: I am trying to find whether there are plants families, genera, or species named after 25 or so people who, as far as I can tell, where *not* plant taxonomists or botanists. In my experience, that type of information is usually collected in obituaries, particularly if the deceased person was a taxonomist him/herself. And, how can one know rapidly whether that the patronymic was given for the person of interest? Imagine, what to do if the deceased person has a common last name (e.g. in the USA, Smith)? Is there a source that says, such and such taxon (name) was erected to honor such and such person? Any constructive feedback, sent directly to my email, [email protected] , is welcomed.
