If you have a connection to someone in the New Orleans area who advocates for low-income communities and has the potential for working with local public officials and/or the academic sector, would you be willing to share this information with the leadership of the ESA Inclusive Ecology section? A couple of us from the section are looking into the possibility of organizing a forum at the 2018 conference to facilitate conversation between scientists and representatives of the local community, with the goal of developing strategies that make science more available to serve the public good.
