This morning I found a beautiful snakeskin in the woods, approximately 46”
long, cool and clingy-damp to the touch. From its moist and supple condition I
assume it’s very fresh.

I brought it home as carefully as possible (rolled up in my pocket) and
after unpeeling it into a straight line I now have it drying on newspaper. Are
there other steps I should be following to preserve it? And is it possible to
identify this to species? The skin from the cranium and mandible is still
intact, and I’d be glad to send a photo to help with ID, along with my thanks
in advance.

                            - J. A.
