Job Description: The Department of Environmental Science at Westfield State University seeks a full-time environmental science faculty member with a specialty in ecological restoration or related field for a tenure track position beginning Fall 2018. Teaching responsibilities include introductory courses in environmental science and upper-level courses, including ecological restoration. Well-qualified candidates will have applied work experience in their field of expertise; evidence of outstanding teaching ability or potential; experience in collaborative teaching and learning environments; and experience in the area of environmental policy or human dimensions of environmental science. The Department of Environmental Science at Westfield State University, currently with 150 active students, is one of the largest such departments in the Northeast and has new lab space in the Nettie Stevens Science Center. The University owns a wetland complex, property on the Wild and Scenic Westfield River, and woodlands that are used for field-based teaching and research. We have a strong working relationship with environmental partners such as The Nature Conservancy, MA Division of Ecological Restoration, Wild and Scenic Advisory Committee, National Park Service, Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife, and other community groups. WSU considers teaching and learning to be the primary duty of faculty. However, research is strongly encouraged, especially projects that involve undergraduates and/or community partners.
