Dear colleagues,

My colleagues and I are pleased to announce that we are going to offer an
ecosystem modelling course with ECOPATH with ECOSIM at the University of
Tromsø, next month. This introduction to EwE ecosystem modeling offered by the
Norwegian College of Fishery Science.

There is no cost for this course, although you need to cover your travel and
accommodation. Since there is a limited number of places available, you need to
communicate with us as soon as possible to reserve your place.

If you have any question please contact Lyne Morissette at

Dates: 4-8 December 2017 9:00 – 16:00
Location: University of Tromsø, BFE, Rooms D-109 (38 spots); D-206 (20 spots)
Teachers: Lyne Morissette (Professor II BFE-NFH); Marie-Anne Blanchette
Maximum number of participants: 20
Course fees: This course is offered at no cost.

Course description: This course is built to provide a solid basis to the
trophic modelling software, Ecopath with Ecosim, and its basic quantitative
tools for ecosystem based fisheries management.

Teaching methods: The time will be split between lectures and tutorials, with a
focus on hands-on development of simple models from scratch, using the
software. This course will give the participants an understanding of the theory
behind the software and the confidence to construct and interpret basic
ecosystem models. The course can be taken as a “stand-alone course”.

Exam: Home exam using the ECOPATH with ECOSIM software; the 10 pages essay
should be turned in end of January 2018; students can work
