Postdoctoral Research Fellow Position in Coupled Biogeochemistry and Hydrology Modeling
The MacroSystems Ecology Lab in the Department of Ecology, Evolution, & Organismal Biology at Iowa State University is seeking applications for one postdoc position in Ecological Modeling. We are seeking an individual to work on modeling representation and quantification of the coupled biogeochemical and hydrological cycles. The successful candidate will participate in an interdisciplinary research team to investigate the natural and anthropogenic impacts on land-air exchange of greenhouse gases and land-to-ocean nutrient movement, by using integrated modeling and computational approaches. The individual is expected to independently develop and implement the spatially explicit process-based land ecosystem model for assessment at regional and global scales. The specific duties include large-scale data development, model improvement, simulation, model evaluation, uncertainty analysis, manuscript preparation etc. This individual will be encouraged to pursue new research direction (e.g., participate in development of research proposals), and will help manage the lab and interact with graduate and undergraduate students. QUALIFICATIONS: • A Ph.D. degree from an accredited institution in Ecosystem Ecology, Biogeochemistry, Ecohydrology, Atmospheric Science, Agriculture, Forestry, or related fields with experience of terrestrial ecosystem modeling is required. • Preference will be given to candidates with experience and background on biogeochemistry/ecosystem modeling, remote sensing and GIS, geospatial analysis, and computer programming (prefer C or C++). • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills, record of research publications in refereed journals of high quality, and a demonstrated ability to function well within multidisciplinary teams are required. • The candidate selected for this position must be able to meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States by the date appointment is scheduled to begin and must be able to communicate in English. Offer: Salary ($44-48k) commensurate with training and research experience plus health benefit, mentoring by and collaboration with senior research personnel from a multidisciplinary team, office space and computer facilities, and coverage of research and related travel expenses.
