University of Colorado-Boulder Education Abroad Program is offering a
conservation biology field course in Brazil, 14-31 May 2018. The course is
held in Brazil's Atlantic Forest, a highly threatened center of faunal and
floral biodiversity. Because much of the forest is in human-dominated
landscapes, successful conservation practice can only occur jointly with
efforts to alleviate socioeconomic issues. In two and a half weeks, this
4-semester credit course offers students hands-on experience through
on-going conservation programs that couple biological understanding with
sociological realities. We will be based out of research facilities of one
of Brazil's largest environmental non-governmental organizations (Instituto
de Pesquisas Ecológicas) in western São Paulo state. In the last week of
the course, we will travel to the iconic Iguaçu Falls in Brazil and
Argentina and stay in the research facilities of Iguaçu National Park.
Established in 1939, the Park is part of the proposed Trinational
Biodiversity Corridor. Here, we will meet with park researchers and
managers and experience firsthand conservation efforts in the Park. The
course is designed for undergraduate and graduate students in disciplines
relevant to conservation

Application deadline is 26 November 2017. The course is open to students
from US colleges and universities. For more information, please see:
