Alberg and Beck Endowed Chair - Native Plant Regeneration

The Department of Forest, Rangeland and Fire Sciences (FRFS) at the University 
of Idaho 
invites applications for an academic year (nine-month), tenure track faculty 
position as 
assistant or associate professor in native plant regeneration. We seek 
candidates to 
provide leadership in research, teaching, and outreach activities that utilize 
and enhance 
the Franklin H. Pitkin Forest Nursery within the Center for Forest Nursery and 
Seedling 
Research, as well as the University of Idaho Experimental Forest. The position 
is located in 
Moscow, Idaho. 

The candidate is expected to develop a strong, extramurally funded research 
program and 
conduct research in a broad range of potential topics around native plant 
regeneration, 
from basic science to applied problem solving. Restoration of native plant 
communities 
may be the focal point of the incumbent. As part of the land grant institution 
for the state 
of Idaho, the candidate will be expected to engage in outreach to benefit 
nurseries, 
foresters, rangeland managers, restoration specialists and researchers through 
the 
effective transfer of research to operational practice, with the focus of 
improving native 
plant seedling quality and plant community establishment success and native 
plant 
regeneration. The successful candidate must also have a strong commitment to 
undergraduate and graduate education. Courses taught by the successful 
candidate may 
include native plant regeneration, nursery management, seedling production, 
restoration 
ecology, or other courses in the candidate’s area of expertise as appropriate. 
The 
successful candidate will be expected to advise undergraduate and graduate 
students in 
the Department of Forest, Rangeland and Fires Sciences. The position is 
flexible and a

Minimum Qualifications

• PhD in Forestry, Plant Science, Restoration Ecology or related field
• Excellent written and oral communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Demonstrated ability to develop a world-class research program
• Demonstrated ability to procure extramural funding
• Demonstrated ability and excellence in outreach and science application
• Demonstrated ability in leadership, in mentoring students and staff to succeed
•Experience in native plant seedling regeneration
•Experience in teaching university courses at both the undergraduate and 
graduate level
•Demonstrated ability to engage with stakeholders
