Hello,
Registration is now open for two Plant I.D. workshops to be held this summer (2018) in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula near the shores of beautiful Lake Superior. These Isle Royale & Keweenaw Parks Association (IRKPA)-sponsored workshops will take place on Isle Royale National Park and Michigan’s Keweenaw Peninsula. Isle Royale National Park workshop (this plant I.D. workshop has been taught on this Lake Superior island every year since 2007) Location: Rock Harbor and vicinity Date: June 4-9 Fee: $699 (in addition to instruction, fee covers all meals, park fees, transportation cost [ferry] between Houghton MI and Isle Royale [and while on Isle Royale], camping, and two IRKPA botany publications) Keweenaw Peninsula workshop Location: Copper Harbor MI and vicinity Date: July 24-26 Fee: $375 These workshops are open to adults with beginning/intermediate knowledge of plant identification who would like to learn to identify the plants of Isle Royale or the Keweenaw Peninsula. Using field guides and dichotomous keys, you’ll learn to identify the flora ranging from showier plants such as orchids to less conspicuous grasses, sedges, and club-mosses in a diversity of both wetland and upland habitats. Evening options include reviewing plants with the instructor, taking photographs, canoeing/kayaking, watching a Lake Superior sunset... whatever your preference may be. To learn more about these two workshops, please visit http://irkpa.org/get-involved/ to see two color flyers with workshop details such as specific habitats to be visited, instructor’s background, cancellation policy, and more. Enrollment is limited to 12 participants, so early registration is suggested to guarantee a spot. Janet Marr, workshop instructor and botanist phone: 906-337-5529 email: [email protected]
