This week the ECOLOG-L subscriber count reached 19,000, 26 years after I started it in 1992.  The graph below shows the history of subscriber number, with an inconsistency in the growth curve at a time when LISTSERV started having some problems with e-mail addresses from yahoo.com (I think that was the one).

Thanks again to the University of Maryland for hosting this list, which I think is the top or second-largest list they now host.  On average it generates about 7-8 million e-mail message per month (and a lot of error messages when there are temporary errors in delivery or subscriber addresses). Although it's now used primarily for advertising job opportunities and courses, I encourage you to use it for one of the other main reasons I started it, to discuss topics of interest for ecologists, post questions about techniques or ideas, etc.
