Good morning dear Eco-loggers A great big thank you to All who provided their suggestions and experiences with tablets and software suitable for field work in the extreme heat, humidity and dust.
Below is a summation of answers: Against - 1. iPhones and iPads because they over-heat 2. Dell venue tablets because the screens break easily, they are big and heavy and don’t operate well. For - 1. Panasonic ToughPad fz-g1, with the option of the long-life battery 2. Phoozy case for the thermal protection of iPhone/iPad 3. Mesa2 tablets with software Survey 123, or Arc Collector among others 4. WildNote software (https://wildnoteapp.com). The advantage is that it will work offline, and format output reports well. And a general comment that was offered from other colleagues outside of Eco-log was to call companies directly and ask if their tablets are “desertized” I thank you very much again and I wish you a wonderful weekend. Ideally we want something that can withstand the high temperatures of the desert. If you can please send me your advice/suggestions I will compile them and send them back to the list-serv.
