Deadline: September 17

The School of Natural Sciences at California State University, Monterey Bay
(CSUMB) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the
assistant professor level to begin in fall 2019. We seek applicants with a
demonstrated commitment to teaching, and with interdisciplinary training in
fisheries, population modeling, and/or oceanography. Ideal applicants have
a background studying processes driving the distribution, abundance,
migrations, and recruitment of marine species in the context of the
variability of their abiotic and biotic environment. Applicants who use an
array of techniques to answer multidisciplinary questions related to
fisheries and climate variability are especially encouraged to apply.

California State University, Monterey Bay (CSUMB) is a comprehensive public
university committed to serving the diverse people of California,
especially the working class, historically underserved, and low-income
populations. The University values an educational environment of cultural
and linguistic diversity and gender equity; ethical reflection and
practice; effective and experimental use of technologies as resources for
people and catalysts for learning; and the integration of
cross-disciplinary models enabling students, faculty and staff to engage in
innovative instruction and coordinated service learning. The curriculum is
organized around student learning outcomes. The campus is located on
Monterey Bay, 100 miles south of San Francisco.

The School of Natural Sciences at CSUMB offers B.S. degrees in Marine
Science, Biology, and Environmental Science, as well as a B.A. in
Environmental Studies. An M.S. is also offered in Environmental Science,
with a M.S. in Marine Science available through nearby Moss Landing Marine
Laboratories. All the programs emphasize the critical thinking and
technical skills necessary to develop workable solutions for complex
environmental problems. Unique in their approach to linking marine science
to management and decision-making, the B.S. in Marine Science and the M.S.
in Environmental Science provide students with active learning and applied
research in a wide variety of marine systems. CSUMB faculty may also advise
students in the Marine Science M.S. program at the Moss Landing Marine
Laboratories consortium campus located in Moss Landing, CA (a 20-minute
drive north of CSUMB).

3 units for mentoring undergraduate and masters student research).
Depending upon candidate expertise and needs of the School, courses may
include Intro to the Oceans (MSCI 270), Biological and Physical
Oceanography (MSCI 370), and development of a new upper-division marine
science course (e.g., marine population dynamics, marine ecological
modeling, or climate science)
* Employ innovative teaching and learning techniques that engage students
through the use of technology, hands-on experience, and problem-solving
* Include undergraduate and masters students in research or applied science
programs
* Advise and mentor undergraduate and masters students in academics,
capstone projects, internships, and post-degree career options
