Position Announcement:
The Global Locust Initiative (locust.asu.edu) is seeking a Senegal Community 
Outreach 
Specialist (SCOS), Req #44461BR, closing Sept. 4, 2018. This person will help 
in the 
execution of a recently awarded USAID/OFDA project implementing soil amendments 
for 
locust management in Senegal, i.e., project planning, partnership building, 
organizing 
workshops and farmer field days, sourcing materials, etc. They will be based at 
ASU, with 
frequent travel to Senegal (up to 5 times over the next year, generally for 3-4 
weeks at a 
time). This is a one-year position, with extension contingent on continued 
funding.
 
The main project objectives are to:
Implement one-week “Train the Trainers” workshop on grasshopper ID, the use of 
nitrogen for locust abatement, Oedaleus senegalensis monitoring, etc.
Plan five Farmer Field Days (1 per project village) to cover the same themes.
Work with the Senegalese National Plant Protection Directorate (DPV) to further 
an early 
warning system for monitoring of O. senegalensis
Conduct biological/social surveys for research and monitor/evaluate the project.
