The AGU Biogeosciences Section Early Career Committee is excited to announce *Caregiver Conference Support* awards for the 2018 AGU Fall Meeting. The purpose of these awards is to support student and early career members affiliated with the Biogeosciences section who face challenges in attending the Fall Meeting due to expenses directly related to their responsibilities as the primary caregiver for a child or other dependent. Each grant of $500 can be used toward conference attendance or caregiving expenses such as daycare costs during the conference, flight expenses of the dependent accompanying the awardee to the conference, or temporary caregiver fees related to conference attendance.
For these awards, early career is defined as either currently a student or less than ten years since earning their last degree. Time spent not working actively in a scientific field (for example, time away from scientific work due to family responsibilities) does not count toward the ten year limit. In this case, include an explanation in the CV and/or statement. To apply, submit the following as a single pdf attachment by email to [email protected] with the subject “AGU Biogeosciences Caregiver support award <Name of applicant>”: 1. Applicant name and contact information (including email address) 2. Current affiliation and position 3. Name and email address of current supervisor/mentor 4. Description of research area (up to 1000 characters, including spaces) 5. CV 6. Abstract for the applicant’s Fall Meeting presentation, including the session name 7. Statement (up to one page) describing the applicant’s planned participation in the conference, how attending the conference would advance the applicant’s career success, and how the award would facilitate or enhance the applicant’s participation in the conference. Applications will be evaluated by the AGU-Biogeosciences early career committee based on each applicant’s need for support and potential to enhance their career through conference attendance. We anticipate providing up to eight awards. Note: Applicants who have already applied for a student travel award to the 2018 Fall Meeting can also apply for a caregiver support award. But recipients will not be awarded both a student travel award and a Caregiver support award at the same meeting.
