Job Category: Temporary/Seasonal Salary: Depends on experience ($2200-$2700 per month) Start Date: 01/01/2019 Last date to apply: 10/15/2018 Description: We are looking for 2 technicians to assist with a study on the spatial ecology and predator-prey interactions of white-tailed deer and coyote in the Piedmont region of South Carolina. This is a temporary position starting in January and ending in August (exact end date flexible). Duties will include assisting in field data collection and management - deer capture, GPS collar placement, animal tracking via radio-telemetry, fawn searches, mortality surveys, carnivore and ungulate scat transects, camera grid deployment and management, and equipment maintenance. Field vehicles will be provided for research-related activities. This position will provide opportunities to network with professionals through Clemson University and South Carolina Department of Natural Resources. Qualifications: We are looking for hard-working, detail-oriented individuals with positive attitudes and a willingness to work abnormal hours in adverse field conditions (high humidity, heat, cold, rain, biting insects, venomous snakes, poison ivy, etc.). A Bachelor’s degree in wildlife management, ecology, or a related field is required. Experience gathering scientific data and working independently required. Applicants must be willing to work and live in a slightly remote field setting. Knowledge of life-history and ecology of white-tailed deer required. Willingness to work with deer carcasses required. Experience tracking animals using radio-telemetry strongly preferred. Experience driving 4x4 vehicles (trucks, atv, side-by-side) on poor road conditions preferred. Experience safely towing/trailering equipment preferred. Applicants must be capable of carrying/lifting 50+ lbs of gear and working long hours. A valid U.S. driver’s license and a clean driving record is required.
