Project description:
The invasive plant ecology lab at the University of Wyoming is seeking a
MS level student to head a leafy spurge research project. Leafy spurge
is an incredibly problematic invader in the Western US partly because it
is difficult to manage. Therefore, this project aims to use the
integration of grazing and herbicide to better manage leafy spurge in
riparian systems.
You will have the opportunity to:
- Implement research in the Yampa River Valley on management of
leafy spurge
- Work directly with county, state, and federal agencies
involved in invasive plant management
- Present results from these projects to other professionals
and stakeholders throughout the region
- Publish peer-reviewed scientific literature
- Develop a management program that will be directly
implemented by land managers
Start date is negotiable; however, work is anticipated to start Spring
2019.
Qualifications sought:
I am seeking a driven and curious student whom has
interest in working closely with state and county agencies to develop
better invasive plant management practices. This student should also
have interest in general ecology, invasion ecology, restoration and/or
invasive plant management and have previous research experience.
Projects will be field-based; therefore, this student should have
previous field experience and a desire to work in potentially remote
areas. Previous experience with managing livestock is desirable.
Significant travel across the state will be required to complete this
project so prospective students must be willing to travel.
Application instructions:
Please submit in PDF form to Dr. Daniel Tekiela
([email protected]) 1) a CV, 2) three professional references, 3) a two-

project and how you would benefit this project, and 4) college
