Summary
This position is located in the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA),
Agricultural Research Service (ARS), Agricultural Systems Research Unit,
located in Sidney, MT.
The incumbent of this position will support a Research Soil Scientist on the
evaluation of management practices on soil carbon and nitrogen cycling,
greenhouse gas emissions, and crop yields and quality in dryland and irrigated
cropping systems.
Major Duties may include, but are not limited to:
Managing field experiments by collecting, preparing and evaluating the
following types of samples: greenhouse gases; soil; plant; and water.
Assisting with analysis of data and data management.
Keeping detailed records of data obtained from experiments.
Maintaining, calibrating and modifying complex/specialized laboratory
equipment and automated systems used for test and evaluation procedures.
Using the following equipment to obtain, analyze and summarize
data/samples: gas chromatographs; combustion-type elemental analyzers;
automated ion analyzers; soil sampling hydraulic probes; and calcimeters.
