The Department of Biological Sciences, in the College of Life Sciences and 
Agriculture, at the University of New Hampshire, invites applications for a 
tenure-track Biological Oceanographer at the Assistant Professor level.  
Expected start date is August 2019.  The successful candidate will be expected 
to teach Biological Oceanography and additional advanced courses at the 
undergraduate and graduate levels in her/his area of expertise.  S/he will be 
expected to establish a strong, externally funded research program and to train 
graduate students, contributing to UNH’s strong marine biology, oceanography, 
and ocean engineering research enterprise.

A Ph.D. in Oceanography, Marine Biology, or other relevant field is required.  
DBS seeks applicants with lived experiences, research, and/or professional

biological processes, especially in the context of climate change, ocean 
acidification, and other anthropogenic influences.  Preferred applicants will 
be able to capitalize on UNH’s geographic proximity to the Gulf of Maine and 
the Great Bay Estuary and take advantage of existing marine infrastructure, 
including the Coastal Marine Laboratory, Jackson Estuarine Laboratory, Shoals 
Marine Laboratory, and a research vessel fleet that includes numerous small 
boats, the R/V Gulf Challenger, and a new Regional Class Research Vessel that 
is part of the East Coast Oceanographic Consortium. Preferred candidates also 
will be able to establish cross-disciplinary research partnerships with faculty 
in other departments and in the School of Marine Science and Ocean Engineering.
