The Department of Geography, Augsburg University, Germany offers:

A fully funded three-year postdoctoral fellowship

To take a leadership role in a research project entitled “Feedbacks between
land cover, people, and climate in the seasonally arid tropics” supported by
the German Academic Exchange Service’s Make Our Planet Great Again - German
research Initiative.

You will be responsible for establishing a UAV-based LiDAR platform and using
this system to observe land cover, vegetation structure, and land use in the
project study areas of central India and West Africa. Your tasks will include
partial supervision of a technician and Ph.D. students. You will have further
opportunities for professional development, including participation in
international conferences and workshops, and supervision of bachelor- and
master-level research assistants, and teaching.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated a high degree of autonomy in their
previous work experience, including the ability to plan and execute field
research. You should be creative and capable of working in settings that are
sometimes unpredictable and unstructured. A desire to work in the tropics and
engage with local stakeholders is essential, as is excellent command of spoken
and written English. Experience working with LiDAR data to recover vegetation
properties including canopy height, density, and biomass are highly desirable.
