Volunteer Opportunity: Administrative Assistant Come join the ARCAmazon team as an administrative assistant at the Las Piedras Amazon Center! Help protect our 4460-hectare (11,000 acre) reserve in one of the last frontier forests in the Peruvian Amazon. We are looking for two individuals to join the team in an administrative capacity in order to increase communication and efficiency on the ground. Much of the work will be independent and we ask volunteers to take initiative and stay self-motivated as they work with volunteers, respond to emails, and aid in marketing.
Job Description: • Coordinate with and assist the executive director and field manager in order to ensure every-day activities are running smoothly • Receive and respond to emails, inquiries, and reservations • Pick up volunteers and visitors from the airport and orient them to Puerto Maldonado. Arrange any in-town activities and eventual transport to the field site • Become involved in grant-writing and reporting • Update social media sites such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter • Make necessary edits to the website and assist in additional marketing needs • Help out in any way needed Who we are: ARCAmazon is a Peruvian non-profit focused on land conservation, research, and education. Our mission is to increase the value of the Amazon, to conserve and protect it, and to connect people with rainforest. We bring people together at our site to collaborate on social, environmental and economic-focused projects that generate win-win outcomes for humans and the environment. Our research helps us refine our conservation strategies and learn more about the complex relationships between humans and rainforests. Current research is focused around themes ranging from biodiversity to ethnobotany, socio-economics to sustainable business, agro-forestry to permaculture and conservation. ARCAmazon believes in the importance of sharing data with land owners, policy makers, NGOs and businesses, to help encourage all parties to take a stake in protecting this critical part of the planet. Location: Most of your time will be spent in the city of Puerto Maldonado at our house in-town. We are located about a block away from the town square with access to restaurants, the local market, shops, and cafes. Room, board, and internet are provided at the house. Money for a food allowance is provided, and most meals will be cooked at home from a general shopping list. There will be the opportunity to visit our field site for a few days during your stay. You will learn about and participate in our research projects, meet the researchers, and become inspired by the magic of the forest. Requirements: We are looking for self-motivated and proactive individuals with varied skill sets. Selected applicants should be well spoken, sociable, and have experience coordinating in groups or teams. Good communication is a must. Come with a passion for conservation, research, and sharing knowledge with others. Grant writing experience and/or Spanish fluency is a plus.
