Join us for the next Project EDDIE webinar: *Developing and Implementing EDDIE Teaching Modules Using High-frequency Datasets to Address Scientific Concepts and Quantitative Reasoning Skills*
*Tuesday, January 15th, 201911 PST | 1 CST | 2 EST* Presented by: Nick Bader, *Whitman College* Registration for this webinar is required by *January 13th, 2019.* ( https://serc.carleton.edu/eddie/earthecosystems/eddieevents/webinars/Jan_15/registration.html ) *Abstract*Nick will talk about his experiences with developing and using his EDDIE Stream Discharge Module that utilizes student collected data. He will also discuss his experience and tips when implementing modules (e.g., Soil Respiration) designed by other authors. Finally, Nick will compare modules designed using student collected data or pre-existing data. https://serc.carleton.edu/eddie/earthecosystems/eddieevents/webinars/Jan_15/index.html EDDIE hosts a number of interactive webinars that focus on improving undergraduate teaching with large datasets. Topics include discussions about identifying barriers and solutions to using data with students, the suite of pedagogical tools, developing teaching modules, and implementing the teaching modules in the classroom. https://serc.carleton.edu/eddie/earthecosystems/eddieevents/webinars/index.html *Project EDDIE:* The Project EDDIE-Earth and Ecosystems initiative is an NSF IUSE project with the goals to 1) Develop a suite of flexible modular curricular materials, using large publicly available online datasets, that contribute to improved student quantitative reasoning; 2) Develop a community of faculty members engaged with materials and professional development designed to foster pedagogical orientation favoring open inquiry with large datasets; and 3) Determine what mechanisms contribute to shifts in instructors’ pedagogical orientation towards inquiry-based teaching. Teaching topics include climatology, environmental science, ecology, limnology, hydrology, soil science, and earth science. https://serc.carleton.edu/eddie/index.html -- Andrew Haveles, Ph.D. Geoscience Assistant Science Education Resource Center (SERC) Carleton College 507-222-5634
