The newly established Camp Fire Program in Wildlife Conservation 
(www.campfirewildlife.com; www.facebook.com/campfirewildlife) at the State 
University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry (SUNY ESF) 
is seeking an outstanding PhD student beginning no later than 1 May 2019. In 
collaboration with Alaska Department of Fish and Game biologists and Alaskan 
Native Corporations, the student will use data from GPS-collared elk to 
estimate their response to timber harvest and develop a harvest regimen that 
optimizes sustained timber yield and elk abundance. Coursework will be 
completed at SUNY ESF with fieldwork conducted on Afognak and Raspberry Islands 
in the Kodiak Archipelago, Alaska.

Requirements:
•       MS degree in Wildlife Ecology, Wildlife Management, or closely related 
field, with a strong academic record. 
•       Excellent quantitative skills and ecological knowledge related to the 
position(s) of interest. Proficiency in R and ArcGIS software is required.  
•       Excellent written and oral communication skills including demonstrated 
ability to publish in peer-reviewed journals.
•       Ability to work in a team-oriented environment with external 
collaborators, strong work ethic, and good sense of humor.

Compensation: 
PhD Students – $25,000 annual salary plus full tuition and benefits
