Oregon Coast Range - Avian Point Count Crew Leader needed to conduct bird point counts and collect habitat data for experimental study addressing the effects of forest management intensity on biodiversity. Duties include training crew in survey methodology and local bird ID, coordinating survey schedules and work flow for 2 other crew members, and working closely with primary investigators and land managers to facilitate a successful data collection effort and positive crew dynamics. Additional duties include conducting early morning bird point counts, vegetation/habitat sampling, data recording, safe driving on logging roads, and care for equipment. Applicants should be comfortable navigating in remote backcountry settings and be able to work as a team member under difficult field conditions. Most days will involve challenging cross-country hiking through regenerating forest stands. Experience with point counts, and knowledge of regional bird ID is desired. Position available May 7, 2019 through mid-late August 2019. Crew leader will receive approximately $2,600-$2,900 per month (commensurate with experience) in addition to housing (McMinnville, OR vicinity).
