Dear colleagues, May 2018, the was founded with the ambitious objective to put the economy in its place. A key concern is the intergenerational exchange of experienced and young scholars to use Karl Polanyi´s inspiring insights to explore challenging issues of the ongoing transformations in an interdisciplinary way. From May 1st to 5th, 2019, it is organizing a joint conference in Budapest and Vienna together with the Karl Polanyi Research Center for Global Social Studies at Corvinus University in Budapest. The overarching theme is "Karl Polanyi for the 21st Century". His main work The Great Transformation, which was published 75 years ago, seems tailor-made for analyzing and understanding the current developments of capitalism and our societies.
