Applications are invited for a three-year postdoctoral research fellowship to
work in association with the project “Breaking new ground,” focused on the
political economy of regional transformation in China’s Greater Bay Area (GBA).
The fellowship, which will be based in the Department of Geography at UBC in
Vancouver, Canada, will begin in September 2021 or as soon as possible
thereafter.

The fellowship is linked the SSHRC-funded research program, “Breaking new
ground: economic integration and regulatory transformation in China’s Greater
Bay Area,” led by Jamie Peck at UBC and Jun Zhang at the University of Toronto.
In addition to contributing to collaborative research on the GBA project, the
successful candidate will be encouraged and supported to develop their own
research and publishing program, preferably in dialogue with the broad
objectives of the “Breaking new ground” project.

Renewable annually, the fellowship will be awarded to an applicant holding (or
about to receive) a PhD in the area of economic geography, heterodox political
economy, economic sociology, or a related field. Research experience in China
will be a significant advantage. Facility in Mandarin or Cantonese is also an
advantage, although not a requirement. The fellowship comes with a stipend of
Cdn$55,000 per year (plus benefits).
