Ah... maybe ethics is the missing component..

Ethics are easy to ignore.  In the article about zones they talked
about the philosophy of zones but i don't remember anything about
ethics.

I had to go off and review ethics which says i don't think about
it much.  Looking through the last few years of various
Pc magazines indicate others don't think about it much either. Here
is a summary of ethics from memory:

 1. All life is valuable.
 2. People care within limits of cycles
 3. Recognition of resource limits
 4. Give away our surplus
 5. Aesthetics from our designs

Hummm, this might be difficult to fit into a discussion on zones,
but ignoring it makes me feel uncomfortable.
