Eric, thanks for a great post on education. I can see you have
given this a lot of thought.
Not all subjects are condusive to teaching. Knowledge and
skills are easier to teach than wisdom and ethics. The
former are composed of fewer variables and elements which
make them easier to manipulate in a learning environment.
The latter are complex and are strongly influenced by
things and events outside of any learning environment a
teacher could create.
Yes, there are some other dimensions to this also. Not all
subjects are worth teaching and often subjects are avoided because
they do not have any hard facts which can be stated as rules.
This gets into questions about what is important and can we
teach subjects that are not understood very well?
The thought that all learning "comes from within" is one
that I have not clearified for myself. I am aware of the
idea that within each of us lies the infinite wisdom of
the universe.
Yes, i'm still trying to define what comes from within. The
more religious view of our having the wisdom of the universe
inside isn't sometime i understand at present.
Live, Love, Learn, Laugh!
Nah, that is too optimistic. You need to add some suffering.
How about...
Live, Love, Suffer, Learn, Die. If you are able
to laugh along the way then treasure it.
