Lasagna Gardening (book review)
If you took the idea of sheet composting/mulching and
applied it to just about everything you would
have the book:
Lasagna Gardening
by: Patricia Lanza
1998
The process goes something like this:
1. Collect lots of mulch. This is the lasagna.
2. mark the area
3. cover with newspapers
4. layer the mulch on top, the first layer is peat.
consider adding wood ashes or bonemeal. keep adding
layers of different types of mulch.
5. plant into this lasagna mix. It will be weed
free and smother the weeds/grass underneath.
The rest of the book uses variations on this theme.
jeff's comments...
Sheet mulching is a good idea and has been around for awhile.
The author makes it sound life her origional idea, but i
doubt it. Also, there are times when sheet mulching isn't
necessary or possible. Most of the mulch used was purchased
or hauled in which isn't sustainable. It is an interesting
book but doesn't make my recomended list.
