Terry - if I could get the same impact for the same outlay here in Ireland
I would pay my bills the same way. But if I use a cheque the recipient pays
it to their own bank who process it electronically and destroy the
original. The various computers talk to each other and it appears on my
monthly statement which is printed, put into an envelope and posted by
machines. And the bank charges me five times as much in fees as it would
have done had I picked up the phone and pushed buttons to pay the bill.
What worries me about this wonderful freedom of the net we all share is
that someone has to spend their time on production lines building these
machines and that I spend time looking at screens instead of doing
something productive with my time or just reading a book. On the other hand
it does mean that one can find the five other people in the world who think
that one's preferred life style is normal
