Things to do in late August

 1. Summer prune grapes, kiwi, and wisteria vines
 2. It is still possible to plant turnips, beets, carrots,
radishes, fall cabbages, and some leaf crops.
 3. Apples are starting to ripen, keep apple maggot
traps in trees and pick up fallen apples and
    destroy (a worm is inside).
 4. Remove water from figs and other plants that are
not winter hardy. Deep water all other perennials
 5. Start bud grafting now.
 6. Check for scale of trees and shrubs, spray with
    light oil of found.
 7. Ask me about the Bear who ate half our orchard.
