Hi Erik,  We had a greywater system long before people were concerned
about the (phosphates?) in detergents and the plants loved it.  This was
on clay soil.  I suspect any "green" product would work and even better
would be to simply use less.  Many people argue that those ceramic
laundry disc's don't work but they do prove that people have bought into
the myth of detergent being necessary in large qualities.  Putting a small
rubber ball in with the laundry would be the same as adding detergent.

We plumbed everything except for the toilet outside.  In this area the
plants are used to having wet roots and they loved it.  Some books
talk about using plants as a bio-filter and then the result is used
to grow nearby plants.  I suspect this might be necessary in desert
regions, but not here.  The rain leaches the salt out and the low temp's
and good drainage eliminate any unwanted life forms.
