This reminded me of Thoreau's version of this idea.  He wrote that
everything comes down to body heat.  In order to maintain our body heat at
any given time we need one or more of the following: food, water, clothing,
shelter, heat.  Transportation is only necessary if you can't supply these
needs from what you have around you.  Perhaps a good idea would be to make
sure that you _do_ have these at hand.

Anyway, Carol, if you're game, I'm willing to throw out my two cents worth
on whatever you come up with.  It's sounds like you're off to a great
start, so I think it might be a very enlightening exercise.  Small chunks
sounds good; when ever you've got time.
