Yes, philosophy is a luxury only the comfortable can afford.
I'm not sure if we should be comfortable at this point.  In
some ways we resemble a herd of animals stampeding towards a
cliff.  Our society is accumulating problems and not finding
sustainable solutions.  Some people are trapped inside the
herd and uncomfortable but don't know what to do or what the
problem is.  The worse thing would a passive acceptance.
With action we can explore and learn first hand.  We can make
mistakes and and see our imperfections.  But, eventually our
experiences will provide a basis for evaluating various
philosophies.
